The Saint Mary Mackillop Library is full of literature and learning
The Junior School Library is named after Saint Mary Mackillop. It is an open-plan library at the centre of the Junior School. We have a fabulous collection of books including lots of series popular with boys. We have a strong non-fiction section, graphic novels and loads of fiction. We also have two online reading platforms: Wheeler’s and World Book online. The boys can access eBooks for pleasure or research at any time on any mobile device.
Our library is staffed by a Teacher Librarian and a Library Assistant. They are helped in these roles by our Year 6 Library Monitors.
Boys attend the library for an hour each week undertaking lessons in literature study, inquiry-based learning and poetry. These lessons are planned and run collaboratively by the Teacher Librarian and Class Teacher. All boys are encouraged to borrow each week. They have two weeks to read their books and return them.
There are many exciting events that occur each year in our Library. These range from participating in extension workshops for our gifted students that might include critical and creative thinking, writing and reading.
The biggest highlight of the year is Book Week during Term III. In this term, the boys undertake poster projects, participate in competitions and get to dress up for our annual Book Parade.
